Before every session I get the question,
“What do I wear?”
And really it’s not a one size fits all answer, but here are my 4 rules to style your family photogenically.
1| comfort
2| color
3| fabric
4| layers
1| comfort
The most important thing to capturing genuine joyful moments- everyone has to be comfortable!
Try to pick weather appropriate clothing, that feels flexible and non-restrictive.
Avoid what feels stiff, difficult to move in, or out of your comfort zone.
We want you to be fully you.
2| color
Most people gravitate towards neutrals, which is always a dependable staple. You can really never go wrong with white, creme, taupe, and browns.
But don’t be afraid to be bold, use vibrant colors if you feel like it compliments your tones.
Keep patterns within a chosen color. Avoid high contrast stripes and polka dots, as they trick the eye in photo.
Avoid black, as it falls to shadow and lacks dimension.
3| fabric
Fabric choice is so important to feel lux and cozy!
Try to find one or two interesting fabrics with varying textures. Keep things flowy, soft, and cozy.
Linen, silk, lace, cashmere, cotton, embroidered, knitted
Avoid what feels difficult to sit down in, and anything too stiff.
4| layers
Keeping in mind comfort, color, and fabric, bring layers just to use, wear, and have options.
Cold = Tense
Better safe than sorry. They can make cute props too.
Try to make sure your layers are cohesive with the outfit, especially for little kids.
Avoid reflectors like on some types of windbreakers.
